Rinkitink in Oz by Frank L Baum
Rinkitink in Oz appeared some years after the great success that L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) enjoyed with the publication of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900. Like its beloved predecessor, it is filled with whimsical characters that quickly endear themselves to young readers, and it has become a classic of children's literature. When the stout and jolly monarch Rinkitink arrives with his talking boat Bilbil on the island kingdom of Pingaree, he soon finds himself caught in the middle of a war between Pingaree and a neighboring kingdom. Together with Pingaree's young Prince Inga, Rinkitink and Bilbil bound from one exciting adventure to another, overcoming enormous obstacles with the aid of magical powers.
The ending, of course, is a happy one. And the story is one of Baum's most delightful and imaginative. It is reprinted here from the original 1916 edition, complete with all 114 illustrations by John R. Neill.

Baum, Lyman Frank: - Born in Chittenango, New York, Baum was an American author, actor, and independent filmmaker best known as the creator, along with illustrator W.W. Denslow, of one of the most popular books in American children's literature, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, better known today as simply The Wizard of Oz. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, first published in 1900, and produced for stage in 1902, was immortalized through the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland, and soon become an iconic part of American culture. A mix of fairy tale and fable, the moral of the story - that with the help of a few good friends, you can find all that you need within yourself- resonated with American audiences for many years. Baum was a prolific writer, who in addition to children's books, wrote plays, short stories, and fantasy under various pseudonyms, and was pressured by his fans into writing many sequels to his The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book.
