In this book, Helen Julian provides seven companions from the past to shed light and encouragement on the wayWoman Alive An exercise in delight and sensitivity... we are taken on a journey in which Jesus seems to unfold to us the story of himself, not only in the scriptures, but in our own history, too. Church Times
Helen Julian is an Anglican Franciscan sister, and has been a member of the Community of St Francis (CSF) for nearly twenty years. She is presently Minister Provincial of CSF in Britain. Her first book, Living the Gospel: the spirituality of St Francis and St Clare was published by BRF in 2001 and her second book, The Lindisfarne Icon: St Cuthbert and the 21st century Christian was published by BRF in August 2004. She is also a regular contributor to New Daylight. She occasionally leads quiets days and retreats and preaches but sees writing as her main ministry. Helen was born and educated in Edinburgh, where her family still live. She has a degree in librarianship and she worked in Dundee's public libraries before joining CSF. During her time in Dundee, she first visited a Franciscan house, which led - by a long process and a number of wrong turnings - to her joining CSF. Her present job involves a lot of travelling and although she is based at one of the community's houses, in Somerset, she is often away from there. For relaxation she reads and, in total contrast, practices aikido, a Japanese martial art. Helen obtained her black belt in 2003 and is now working towards second dan, the next level of expertise.
