The Road to Santiago by Michael Jacobs

This is a fully-illustrated guide to the remarkable architecture along the main pilgrim route through Spain to Santiago de Compostela in the north-west. Established by the end of the 10th century, the route passes the churches, monasteries, cathedrals, hostels and hospitals associated with the pilgrimage as well as fine examples of Romanesque, Mozarabic, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and traditional folk architecture. This guide is an invaluable companion for the traveller and pilgrim.
Michael Jacobs is widely regarded as one of the leading Hispanists of his generation. He studied art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art where he gained a doctorate in 1982. He is now Senior Honorary Research Fellow in the Hispanic Department of the University of Glasgow. He is the author of numerous books on art and travel, including Madrid Observed, Andalucia, and In the Glow of the Phantom Palace - all published by Pallas Athene.
