Robert Byron, who tragically died young in the Second World War, was the foremost travel writer of his age, acclaimed especially for 'The Road to Oxiana'. He was also a pioneer of Byzantine history, fought to save Georgian London, and was one of the first voices raised against fascism. James Knox was educated at Eton and thereafter at Cambridge where he read History of Art and at INSEAD where he gained an MBA. He was for ten years Publisher of 'The Spectator' before setting up his own consultancy to advise on commissioning works of art for public and private spaces. He lives in London.
