Robert Graves by Richard Perceval Graves

This is a new edition of the second volume of the biography of the poet Robert Graves. The meeting of the two poets Robert Graves and Laura Riding in 1926 was the beginning of one of the most intense and contradictory love affairs in English literary history. Graves, married with four children, became obsessed by Laura's formidable intellect and magnetic personality. She became his muse and inspiration, and it was while they were together that he wrote most of his best work, including some of the finest love poetry written in the English language this century. The couple lived with Graves's first wife in a "menage a trois" which, with the advent of another partner intended for Laura, became a "menage a Quatre". Tensions and rivalries grew, and Graves and his mistress moved to Mallorca to make a life for themselves.
