Sarah Andrews, a professional geologist and licensed pilot, has won four prizes for her writing, including the Journalism Award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the James Shea Award from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers. She enjoys drawing with pastels plein air in Northern California's wine region, where she resides with her husband and son, when she is not writing or teaching at Sonoma State University. With their 1965 Beechcraft Baron, they enjoy blue-water sailing, skiing, and touring the West.
