The story predates Arthurian legend and is thought to have influenced the romance between Lancelot and Guinevere found in the stories of Arthur.Charles Marie Joseph Bédier, a French philologist who specialized in medieval literature, was born on January 28, 1864, in Paris 6th and died on August 29, 1938, in Grand-Serre, Drôme.
