Rosie Loves Jack by Mel Darbon
Rosie loves Jack. Jack loves Rosie. So when they're separated, Rosie will do anything to find the boy who makes the sun shine in her head. Even run away from home. Even struggle across London and travel to Brighton, though the trains are cancelled and snow is falling. Even though people might think a girl like Rosie could never survive on her own.
A story about the power of love and the importance of remembering that those with disabilities should not be defined by them* Mail on Sunday *
An absorbing read in which the author’s knowledge and research of learning disabilities always ensures an authentic voice. * BookTrust *
an enthralling story of resolve and grit... a moving and uplifting novel. * The Guardian *
Passionate and inclusive, it’s a compelling quest for love and independence. * The Observer *
Darbon’s portrayal of Rosie and Jack is bright with emotional connection. The language comes over as authentic, and took me on Rosie’s journey inside her head, not as an onlooker, but someone looking at the world from the inside out. * Linda Wilson, Crime Review *

Mel Darbon spent a large part of her childhood inventing stories to keep her brother, who had learning disabilities, happy on car journeys. Having worked as a theatre designer and freelance artist, as well as teaching young adults with learning disabilities and running creative workshops for teenage mums, young offenders and toddlers, Mel now writes young adult novels. She is a graduate of Bath Spa's MA in Writing For Young People, where she found a channel to give voice to young people who otherwise might not be heard. Her first book, Rosie Loves Jack, was a World Book Night and Empathy Lab selection.
