Royal Service by David Stanley
In 1996, the centenary year of the institution of the Royal Victorian Order and the Royal Victorian Medal, Volume l of Royal Service was published. It recorded the history of the Order, the Medal and the Royal Victorian Chain and all substantive appointments of the Order and substantive awards of the medal. It also recorded all holders of the Royal Victorian Chain. Volume ll completes that history, bringing the appoint-ments and awards up to date and recording all honorary appointments to the Order and all honorary awards of the medal. It also includes the history of the Royal Family Orders, and an account of various medals and badges of office connected with the Royal Households. Volume lll records the history of the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medals, together with a register of all recipients.
David Stanley works for Sotheby's. In 1975 he was invited to assist in maintaining the collection of Orders and medals at Windsor Castle.
