The Sacred Scarab by Gill Harvey

The third in a new series of four books: the first and second titles were published in August and October 2009, the fourth to be published in April 2010. Fantastically atmospheric evocations of Egyptian life are encased in an exciting adventure story. Each story features the boy and girl characters Hopi and Isis, and their struggles for existence and adventure in Egypt circa 1150 BC. In this story, The Sacred Scarab, Isis and Hopi discover the greed of the all-powerful tax collectors. The author has spent much time in Egypt and the stories are meticulously researched. The books include factual detail and notes about Egyptian lifestyle, the importance of the gods for the Egyptians, the tombs and much more.
Praise for Orphan of the Sun: 'Well researched and extremely filmic, you can almost feel the heat and taste the ripe figs' The Bookseller 'A rich storyThe author's love for the place is evident and allows you to imagine events clearly even without any prior knowledge of ancient Egypt. An unusual, well researched book' School Librarian 'Orphan of the Sun is a great resource to use for the Egyptians, and has an accompanying website bursting with information' Junior Education 'Stories set in Ancient Egypt are rare so this is very welcome. Details of life at the time, the food, drink, clothing and customs come alive as part of the story, not indigestible facts' Books for Keeps
Gill Harvey studied French and Philosophy at Oxford, and has been puzzling over life ever since. After experimenting with a number of careers, she eventually got a job as a writer/editor at Usborne Publishing in 1994. Five years later, having reached the position of Senior Editor and having completed an MA in Modern Literature, Gill decided to go freelance. Since then, writing has become a way of life. Her love of horses has resulted in eight of the Heartland titles for Scholastic Inc under the name of Lauren Brooke; she has also written a couple of Hodder Headline's Young Animal Ark books as Lucy Daniels. A year spent commuting to Egypt led to the writing of Orphan of the Sun, Gill's first book for Bloomsbury, and subsequently to the Egyptian Chronicles series.
