Saints: The Final Countdown by Ken Bold
This book is essential reading for every Saints supporter and will interest anyone with a passion for Rugby League. Each and every one of Saints' 79 finals is described in an interesting and succinct way. Carefully chosen illustrations enhance the text.
Ken Bold was born at Cowley Hill Hospital in St Helens in December 1952. His father was a keen Saints supporter and for many years he operated one of the turnstiles at Knowsley Road on match days. From a very early age Ken accompanied his dad to reserve games and attended his initial first team match in February 1960. He has watched many hundreds of Saints games since then and, hopefully, will continue to watch Saints for many years yet. He played amateur Rugby League for Saints `Youth Section' before representing Leeds University at the sport in the early seventies. He played for a number of local clubs after completing his studies, most notably Saints B team. After he finished playing he spent several years as a referee. He also coached school teams at Sutton Manor and Penketh primary schools. He now lives in Widnes but regularly makes the short trip to the Totally Wicked Stadium to watch Saints and makes contributions to the `Saints and Proud' matchday programme. This is his first book.
