Sam Golod by Sophia Creswell
In post-communist St Petersburg, Natalie, a young Englishwoman, grapples with an alien way of life. She is soon confronted with the reality of the city's drug-running mafyosi. When a murder is followed by the stabbing of an English friend, Natalie realizes that she is dangerously out of her depth.
Born in Paris in 1969, Sophia Creswell graduated from Durham University in 1991. She spent the next year in St. Petersburg, teaching English as a foreign language and then working for an art publisher. She has travelled widely throughout the Far East and Southern Africa, and has recently worked for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.
