Sam Pig & the Cuckoo Clock by Alison Uttley
In Sam Pig's household, Brock is the only one who is allowed to wind the clock. But when he is away it falls silent, and Sam, missing its friendly "tick tock" voice, tries to wind it up. But it breaks, and Sam sets out to find a new clock in time for Brock's return, and gets help from a kind witch.Alison Uttley (1884-1976) developed a love of science at school and won a scholarship for physics at Manchester University. Her husband died in 1930, and in order to support herself and her son, she began to write a series of imaginary stories about animals such as Little Grey Rabbit, Little Red Fox, Sam Pig, and Hare. Before her death she wrote more than one hundred books.
