The Sanibel Sunset Detective by Ron Base
Tree Callister is not much of a private detective. His first client just turned up at the door and he's twelve years old. What's more, the kid has the grand total of $7 with which to hire Tree to find his mother. Everyone on Sanibel Island, Florida where Tree lives, thinks the former newspaper reporter is out of his mind. His only defender is his wife Freddie, and even she has doubts. Then a headless body shows up, along with a threatening thug, a couple of suspicious detectives, and a former girlfriend now an ex-FBI agent who suspects Tree knows more than he is admitting. Before long, Tree is up to his neck in the kind of murder and mystery he only imagined as a boy reading the private detective novels he loved. Ron Base's new novel, The Sanibel Sunset Detective, is full of fast-paced action, humor, unexpected plot twists, and memorable characters. Steeped in the sun-drenched atmosphere of Sanibel and Captiva, two of Florida's most beautiful and unusual islands, this is the first in a series of Tree Callister adventures.Ron Base has written for the Windsor Star, the Toronto Sunday Sun, and Maclean's magazine as a former newspaper journalist, magazine writer, and screenwriter. He's also contributed to a number of American magazines, including the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and Cosmopolitan Magazine. He wrote about movies for the Toronto Star, the country's largest circulation daily, for the greater part of a decade. In addition to his Sanibel Sunset Detective mystery novels, which have become Florida bestsellers, Base has recently released The Escarpment, the first of a series of mystery novels set in Milton. Base spent several years in Los Angeles, where he penned If The Other Person Isn't Jack Nicholson, I've Got The Part, a book about the history of cinema celebrity that was published in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
He has also resided in Montreal, Paris, and Rome, and has authored numerous screenplays. Base is a Canadian native who was born, reared, and schooled. His wife, Kathy Lenhoff, and he split their time between Milton and Fort Myers, Florida, not far from Sanibel Island, the setting for his mystery novels. Ron's website is ronbase.com.
