Science 5-14 by Paul Chambers
This is the second book in a series written as an exact match to the science component of the "Environmental Studies 5-14 Guidelines". The guidelines have recently been revised, so this is the first and only course to match the latest set. This series of books aims to bring about greater coherence between primary and secondary science, by providing a course which spans the primary-secondary boundary, giving much needed continuity and progression between P7 and S1. Each book covers the three Attainment Outcomes (Living Things and the Processes of Life, Earth in Space, and Energy and Forces), with 20 double page spreads for each AO. Key features include: focussed spreads on developing informed attitudes; focussed spreads aimed at developing investigative skills; key ideas, which provide a summary of the important concepts in each spread; wordbanks which provides concise definition of the key words used in each spread; and questions to test knowledge and understanding.
Nicholas Souter, Paul Chambers, James Marshall & Rae Stark. The authors are all experienced teachers, with both primary and secondary specialists on the team. Three members of the team (NS, PC, RS) currently work in the Department of Education, University of Strathclyde. One member of the team was involved in revising the 5-14 guidelines (RS).
