Attila the Stockbroker has travelled the world for ten years, taking his highly individual, fiery cocktail of energetic performance poetry, hardcore minimalist folk-rock anthems (accompanied by his trusty mandola, Nelson) and surreal political satire from Shoreham Harbour to Sydney Harbour, from Harlow to Helsinki, via Leipzig, Vancouver, Auckland, Amsterdam and Tirana – not to mention Slough! Scornflakes is Attila’s second book of poems, the follow-up to 1985’s Cautionary Tales for Dead Commuters… Inspiration by Hilaire Belloc. Clothes sense by The Levellers. Holder of a poetic licence for a minstrel cycle, Attila’s other interests include lugworms, cultivating coriander plants and ‘attempting to control the growth of other vegetables, especially Tory C2s’. In Britain, Attila has done substantial work for The Guardian and Radio Four, written for the music press (ha!) and even stranger publications, and made considerable numbers of sporadic and often unlikely radio and TV appearances from John Peel to Pebble Mill. He’s a regular at events such as the Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festival, and performs at every conceivable type of venue – arts centres, rock gigs, poetry festivals, comedy clubs…He has released five LPs in the UK – most recently Scornflakes and Donkeys’ Years – and has also had albums issued in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
