The Seacoast of Bohemia by Nicolas Freeling
A mother is sure her son has been kidnapped, but the police think he's just another runaway. Henri Castang isn't so sure though, especially when he discovers that the boy's grandfather has an illegitimate son who used to be an SS officer, and he begins to suspect a very personal retribution.
Nicolas Freeling was the creator of the van der Valk and Castang series, and was considered the most unique writer amongst 20th Century crime novelists. He died in 2003.
