DeVito, Candida R.: - Cándida Rosa DeVito was born in 1949 in Las Limas, a remote village located in Olancho, Honduras. She was only able to obtain an elementary school education in her own country because of the lack of opportunities for women during that time period. Her journey from the remote village of Las Limas to Boston, Massachusetts U.S.A. in the early 1960s gave Cándida hope for a newfound freedom. However, she soon discovered that she had to face countless challenges and obstacles in her new homeland, including language and cultural barriers. Nevertheless, she was able to thrive both professionally and personally despite these struggles. Candida's family and friends proudly witnessed her transformation from a timid young girl with minimal education to a highly educated and confident woman. After spending five years getting her high school diploma, she obtained a teaching degree from Salem State University and graduated Summa Cum laude. She then went on to acquire a Master's Degree in Spanish literature from Boston College and had an accomplished career as a teacher for the Boston Public Schools. She received numerous awards for her excellence and dedication and has been featured in several newspapers, including the New York Times. The writing of her life story, Sacred Vows: A True Story of Forbidden Love, is the fulfillment of a personal dream and an inspiration to all. At the request of many readers, the book was translated into Spanish by the author under the title Secretos de un Amor Prohibido.
