Self-Liberation through Seeing with Naked Awareness by Padmasambhava
A spiritual classic along the lines of The Tibetan Book of the Dead, this text is a clear and accessible guide to the essence of Dzogchen and the attainment of BuddhahoodA text belonging to the same cycle as The Tibetan Book of the Dead, this instruction on the method of self-liberation presents the essence of Dzogchen, The Great Perfection, regarded in Tibet as the highest and most esoteric teaching of the Buddha.
Teaching the attainment of Buddhahood in a single lifetime, this text was written and concealed by Guru Padmasambhava in the eighth century and rediscovered six centuries later by Karma Lingpa. The commentary by the translator is based on the oral teachings of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and Lama Tharchin Rinpoche.
With the Vajrayanateachings and, in particular, the action of the profound termatreasures, Padmasambhava has influenced countless creatures. King Trisong Deutsen invited Padmasambhava to Tibet because he wanted to develop Buddhism there but was being hindered by malevolent spirits. As Padmasambhava arrived, the temple complex of Glorious Samye, the Unchanging and Spontaneously Completed Temple, was built in five years. Several other profound and exceptional teachings were given by Padmasambhava to numerous destined students, including the king and his sons, as well as the twenty-five disciples. It is hard to know how many Tibetan pupils were personally empowered by Padmasambhava.
Many of these close classmates had bloodlines that have survived to this day. He is currently residing on the vidyadhara level of spontaneous presence in the form of Vajradhara's regent, unshakable for as long as samsara exists. He sends out emanations to assist beings, full of compassion.
