The Serbs by Tim Judah
This history of the Serbs opens with the medieval kings of Serbia and a battle lost six centuries ago that still profoundly influences the Serbs. It then describes the idea of "Serbdom" and examines the tenuous ethnic balance fashioned by Tito and its unravelling after his death. The Economist's Tim Judah is a reporter. Judah worked for the BBC before reporting the Balkan wars for The Times and other media after graduating from the London School of Economics and Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. For The New York Review of Books, he chronicled the war in Ukraine. With his wife and five children, he lives in London.
