Seven Sonatinas, Op.168 by Anton Diabelli
Anton Diabelli was an Austrian publisher and composer, immortalised in the piano repertoire as the composer of an inconsequential waltz theme transformed by Beethoven in his mighty set of variations. With their graceful melodies and clear harmonic structures, these works have always been popular examples of the classical sonatina.
There is a good variety of keys and moods in the set and plenty of practice at standard figurations and techniquesDiabelli is unfailingly lyrical, even in the fast movements, so these pieces will be useful in developing a good cantabile tone. * Music Journal *
