JAMES HERBERT, a horror writer, was born in London, England. He worked as a singer and an art director for an advertising agency before becoming a full-time writer. His books (including The Rats, The Fog, Others, and Ash) have sold over 42 million copies around the world and have been translated into 33 languages, including Russian and Chinese. A number of James' novels have been adapted into films, including Aiden Quinn and Kate Beckinsale in 1982's Haunted. The Mystery of Crickley Hall was recently turned as a three-part BBC drama. Herbert received an OBE and was dubbed a Grand Master of Horror by the International Horror Convention in 2010.
