Sing Down the Moon by Scott O'dell

Newbery Honor Book

In this powerful novel based on historical events, the Navajo tribe's forced march from their homeland to Fort Sumner is dramatically and courageously narrated by young Bright Morning.

Like the author's Newbery Medal-winning classic Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell's Sing Down the Moon is a gripping tale of survival, strength, and courage.

Occidental College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Stanford University, and the University of Rome were among his colleges. Before joining the US Air Force during WWII, he worked as a technical director for Paramount, a cameraman for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and a book editor for a Los Angeles newspaper. He established the Scott O'Dell award for historical fiction in 1981, after receiving multiple book honors. On October 15, 1989, he passed away.
