SKIP by Molly Mendoza

A colorful, unpredictable postapocalyptic world comes alive in Skip, when two unlikely friends, Bloom and Gloopy, find themselves tossed from dimension to dimension. Gloopy is running toward adventure, and away from their home and friends who don't understand their creative talent. Bloom is desperately trying to return home to their lake, and avoid the terrible violence of the city. Instead, both Bloom and Gloopy find what they need in each other, and bravely return home to challenge their fears and create beauty in their own worlds.

As Bloom and Gloopy skip through dimensions and encounter weeping giants, alligator islands, and a topsy turvy 2D world, they find comfort in each other and learn that sometimes, your greatest fear reveals where your strengths lie. Great for fans of Black Mirror.

Skip is a flurry of bold and vivid cartooning that pulls you through this tender story of friendship at heart-wrenching speeds. Molly layers every page with such a dense whimsicality that it left me wanting to go back and re-read so I could sink my eyes into the details again and again.
--Sloane Leong, creator of Prism Stalker

Skip is also a book that speaks to us intimately about self-discovery and the importance of the ties that bind. It's a truly magnificent visual spectacle but it's also a deeply human story, and for all its artistic extravagance that is perhaps its greatest strength. * Broken Frontier *

Dizzying and intoxicating * Comics Beat *
Skip is in some ways an experimental comic, but it's subtle; it doesn't feel like one while you're reading it. Its story is fairly traditional and easy to understand-friendship, family, bonds among humans, getting outside your comfort zone. * The Comics Journal *
Skip is a sensory work. We travel through worlds experiencing moods and cultures through pattern and colour. * Daredevils and Warriors *
From red hot scenes filled with danger to more tranquil moments captured in watery hues and all the rainbow-filled explosions in between - the book is worth buying for the palette inspiration alone. * Headless Greg *
Mendoza uses a feast of colour to evoke individual emotional states and wider moods, one specific time and place. * Page 45 *

Skip isn't a travelogue -- it's a trip. The point isn't to vicariously explore imaginary worlds, but simply to let your eye float along the stream of fantastical visions Mendoza spins out. * Etelka Lehoczky, NPR *
Mendoza's artwork is a total revelation. * John Seven, The Beat *
An original graphic novel. the art moving between the serene and dynamic, the grounded and surreal, and through palettes of colour. All round a really lovely piece of work. * Carabas *
Glorious collages of colour and texture. [a] mini masterpiece. Skip is a thoughtful and beautifully told tale of friendship and a search for purpose, which is brought to life by a glorious mix of abstract imagery that helps to really make the most this book's dreamlike and otherworldly qualities. * Pipedream Comics *
The art which ebbs and flows over the pages of the book is a joy to behold... Molly's vivid use of colour is astonishing. Keeps you on the edge of your toes from start to finish. * Get Your Geek On *
