Skomer: Portrait of a Welsh Island by Jane Matthews
Skomer Island is a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Scientific Interest, a world-renowned bird paradise and home to the world's largest colony of Manx Shearwaters. It is also home to author, painter and photographer Jane Matthews. In this new superb natural history book Jane provides a close up of the island.
Jame Matthews was born in Bristol in 1972, studied Fine Art at Oxford University and Art History at the Courtauld Institute in London. She was working as an artist in the television and film industry in London when she first went to Skomer for a week, as part of the Voluntary Warder scheme. There she met Juan, the Warden. Jane left London in 2003 and now lives on the island with Juan, their daughter Martha and about half a million seabirds. She paints, writes, takes photogrpahs, studies the Grey Seal breeding season and rarely misses London.
