Bethany McLean is a well-known investigative journalist who covered the Enron scandal and the financial crisis of 2008. She authored Is Enron Overpriced? in 2001 as a young writer at Fortune magazine, where she later became an editor at large. She and her Fortune colleague Peter Elkin coauthored the blockbuster The Smartest Men in the Room: The Astonishing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron when the company went bankrupt. In 2006, a documentary based on the book received an Oscar Award nomination. All the Demons Are Here: The Secret History of the Financial Crisis, which she coauthored with New York Times writer Joe Nocera, is her most recent book.

She worked at Goldman Sachs as an investment analyst before joining Fortune. She is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, a Fortune.com columnist, and a CNBC contributor. She is a Williams College graduate who now resides in Chicago.
