Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock was born in Alaska and raised there. She spent many years commercial fishing with her family and working as a reporter for Alaska Public Radio stations around the state. She was also the host and producer of Independent Native News, a daily newscast concentrating on Alaska Natives, American Indians, and Canada's First Nations, which was produced in Fairbanks. Her writing is influenced by the four generations of her family who have lived in Alaska.
