
The Smile of the Lamb by David Grossman
A story of the Jewish people in Israel, and of Israel's occupation of Palestinian teritory. This book tells the story of Uri, an idealistic soldier serving in an Arab town on the occupied West Bank, and his wife Shosh who enters into an affair with Uri's commander.
David Grossman was born in 1954 in Jerusalem, where he now lives with his family. He has won several awards including the 1985 Israel Publishers Association's Prize for the best novel in Hebrew. The Yellow Wind, a non-fiction work which describes the symptoms of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and his novel See Under: Love, are both published by Jonathan Cape.
