Smoke & Dust by Perry Scott Woodfin
In Smoke & Dust, Perry Woodfin sews together poems that are rooted in the everyday and that blanket romantic desire, veils of secrecy, and the mysteries behind the ordinary rituals of life. Whether just sipping coffee and watching the sea, observing raindrops slide down an airplane window, or listening to a dripping faucet, what would appear normal, reaches a new stage of poetic discovery. With flashing wit and insight Woodfin uncovers what is common to all of us with eloquent warmth and glowing passion. Illustrated by Woodfin, Smoke & Dust is an edgy contemporary look that speaks to life in America, a poetry book we don't want to wake from.
Perry Woodfin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washington State University, and has worked full time as an artist since 1965. As a lifelong resident of Washington State, the content of his art reflects the Northwest. The beauty of Northwest landscape, the common and ordinary things that exhibit history of use, the human themes of romance, pathos, comedy, and ritual, and his love of poetry, all show up in his art. I try to capture and exhibit the force and spirit these things hold for me, he says. He lives and works on Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle.
