Smoke, Steam & Light by John Austin
Britain's most celebrated living railway artist, John Austin is an honorary fellow of the Guild of Railway Artists. This title, beautifully produced in large format on art paper, presents 100 of his best portrayals of steam trains, each painting accompanied by text explaining the setting, the subject and the techniques used.
Light is the most important ingredient in any picture, says John Austin. Prior to earning his living as a railway artist, he developed his appreciation of light effects as a professional lighting designer. He is now an Honorary Fellow of the Guild of Railway Artists, and has won the GRA's 'Picture of the Year' award 16 times in the past 17 years. He lives at Bridgnorth (home of the Severn Valley Railway) and Dawlish (where the main line to Cornwall runs spectacularly alongside the coast).
