The Smoking Room by Julie Parsons

Part of the Open Door series of short books for emerging readers. It all began one morning in the smoking room of the Department of Health and Welfare. That was where happily married Jack met the lovely Grace. At first smoking was all they had in common. But soon they were sharing a lot more. Love, as well as cigarette smoke, was in the air. But when Miriam, Jack's wife, began to suspect that his feelings had changed everything became a lot more dangerous. Because Miriam was a woman who liked to get her own way, and this time she was playing to win.
Born in New Zealand in 1951, Julie Parsons has lived in Dublin since 1963. Formerly a radio producer at RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster, Parsons first novel Mary, Mary was such an instant critical and commercial success that she turned to writing full time. She went on to write several bestselling thrillers and crime novels, including most recently The Therapy House, winner of the 2017 Crime Fiction prize at the Irish Book Awards. Her books are translated into many languages.
