John Byrne, who was born in England and reared in Canada, first became aware of superheroes while watching The Adventures of Superman on television. He began his career in comics with Skywald and then Charlton, where he created the character Rog-2000, after graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design. Following his time at Charlton, Byrne joined Marvel, where his critically praised runs on The Uncanny X-Men and The Fantastic Four quickly established him as one of the industry's most popular artists. He joined DC in 1986 to completely reimagine SUPERMAN, and since then he has drawn and/or written every major character at both DC and Marvel.
