He received his PhD from LSE, and his thesis, Sociology of Progress, was published by Routledge in 1970.

Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the London School of Economics, Leslie Sklair He worked for two years in a cotton mill outside of Glasgow before attending university to study sociology and philosophy. Each of these events sparked a lifelong fascination with how capitalism works for different groups of people. His long-standing interest in architecture and cities, in particular, increased his understanding of the built environment's ability to shape our lives.
