A Soldier and a Gentleman by Richard Waldram
Bertram Portal was born into a wealthy family, famous for their mill at Laverstoke in North Hampshire which made banknote paper for the Bank of England.
Richard Waldram has lived in Overton, Hampshire for 46 years, near Southington House, which was Bertram Portal’s home. He qualified as a doctor in 1966 and became a consultant physician. In retirement he has published several monographs about Overton and led a major project with a team of researchers to produce A History of Overton in 2019.
