The Soldier at the Door by Edith Pargeter
On 28th May, 1953, 20-year-old soldier Jack Parrish is killed in Korea just before the armistice: a meaningless, confusing death. When word reaches his mother in the small village of Caldington she begins a calm but determined search for answers. And for someone to blame.
