A Soldier of the 6th Division by Michael R Brookbank
This is a particularly lively and exciting personal memoir of a very lucky machine gunner in the First World War. This book contains the most detailed account of the actions of the 6th Division during the last twelve months of the war that is available.
Born in 1930, Michael Brookbank was educated at Chester Grammar School and Palmer’s School, Grays. On completing National Service in the Royal Navy, he went on to take degrees in Engineering and Chemical Engineering at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He subsequently spent some years with Shell before moving into the contracting industry where, as the head of engineering, he was responsible for the design of oil and gas production facilities around the world.
