The Solent by Terry Heathcote
The Solent is a unique stretch of English coastline. Bordered to the north by the Southern English mainland and to the south by the diamond-shaped Isle of Wight, its character is widely varied both from East to West and from North to South. Dotted with historic Napoleonic forts and treacherous shingle spits, it rims the picturesque New Forest, Naval Portsmouth, the busy city of Southampton, it is home to bustling coastal villages like Beaulieu and Lymington, and on its southern shores are the intriguingly named Isle of Wight towns - Ryde, beloved of summer holidaymakers; Cowes, the home of yachting; and the starkly impressive white rock of the Needles - a landmark recognised the world over. This book is a photographic celebration of the Solent in all its glory and variety, offering a unique and highly enjoyable insight into the Solent's changing landscapes.
A beautiful voyage through the Solent..a highly enjoyable book Wiltshire Society, October 2008 ...this should appeal to all those who love to be on or near the water. The Lifeboat (June 2009)
