The Solicitor's Handbook by Andrew Hopper Qc

Significant changes to the regulation of solicitors are underway. With the advent of outcomes-focused regulation and alternative business structures it has never been more important to stay abreast of the rules and regulations governing solicitors. The Solicitor's Handbook 2011 has been comprehensively updated to take account of all the recent developments in this area. This authoritative guide provides expert commentary on the practical reality of the regulatory and disciplinary environment in which solicitors operate, and discusses all of the relevant decided cases in the field. This thoroughly updated edition offers: * a revised chapter on the Legal Complaints Service to take account of the establishment of the Legal Ombudsman on 6 October 2010 * consideration of the SRA's new powers to issue a GBP2,000 fine, or a written rebuke, to a solicitor and publicise its decision * an overview of how the regulatory regime for alternative business structures may operate in practice * discussion of the SRA's proposed new outcomes-focused regulation * commentary on the new draft Code of Conduct due to be implemented in October 2011 * coverage of the Solicitors' Indemnity Insurance Rules 2010. This invaluable resource can assist practitioners in maintaining high professional standards and enabling them to identify and deal with regulatory and disciplinary issues before they develop into loss for clients and others, damage to reputation, and regulatory interest.
