The late Les Powles didn't find the time to write this book until the age of 85. An ordinary yachtsman with an extraordinary tale to tell, he won Yachtsman of the Year in 1981 in recognition of his amazing achievements, and after completing his last great adventure, Lymington Yacht Haven gave him a free berth for life. He died in early 2022, and had been living aboard his beloved self-built yacht Solitaire in Lymington Yacht Haven until not long before.
