Hospital shop steward Lenny Moss is pulled into a new murder investigation when a practical joke he initiated backfires. A beautiful pharmaceutical sales rep has been found murdered in the hospital, and Lenny and his co-workers are implicated. His only chance of saving them all from termination is to organize the workers to find the killer. Suspicions fall on an ego-maniacal transplant surgeon demanding a million dollars for an unproven procedure and on a GI physician involved in a suspicious drug study. Meanwhile, a brutal heat wave is sending laundry workers to the Emergency Room with heat stroke, but the administration resists Lenny's demand that they cool the laundry down.
