David Chase is a Brattleboro, Vermont native. He's worked as a carpenter, a truck driver, and a wine salesperson, among other things, over the years. He served on the Brattleboro Planning Board for ten years, was a founding member of Brattleboro's BCTV, Channel 8, and wrote a weekly column for the Brattleboro Reformer and the Keene Sunday Sentinel for several years. He published a collection of his columns in A Peasant of West Brattleboro in 1987. In 1989, he stayed at The Millay Colony for the Arts for a month.

Vermont Theatre Company performed his three-act piece As Fair As You Were in 2009. He has lived in Sonoma County, California, and Hannington, Northamptonshire, UK, in addition to Brattleboro. He presently resides in Keene, New Hampshire, with his wife Susan. His debut novel is Grants Ferry.
