Paul J. D'Angelo was a first clarinetist in the band. He was also a friend to Richard Whitmarsh for forty-six years. An active music educator and music director for many concerts and theatrical productions, Paul received diplomas from the University of Miami, New England Conservatory of Music, and Bridgewater State College. He also studied in France with Nadia Boulanger and was a bandmaster for the U. S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War, experiences which can be read about in his book Soundings: Honoring Influential Teachers, published through Riverhaven Books in 2017. Jon C. Mitchell is an esteemed, well-recorded conductor, clinician, and arranger, with over 100 publications to his credit, including several books and edited music journals. A Chicago native, he holds degrees from Millikin University and University of Illinois. Now retired, his most recent academic position was that of Professor of Music for twenty-three years at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
