Adele Baker was born under the Blue Ridge Mountains' shadow. Because of her father's job, the family had to move every few years. She'd had everything from Cajun seafood gumbo to Swiss cheese fondue to Mediterranean keftedes (lamb meatballs) at the age of 13. Her family valued time spent at the dinner table, and there were generally more than the original six at the table. She cherished her childhood memories of a close-knit family who shared meals together.

Micah and Adele met in college, married, and had a family within two years of graduation. Addie Rae was born in March, and Adele was overjoyed during the first year of her daughter's life. Addie Rae was nestled into the backpack as the family traveled through the Blue Ridge Mountains. They cruised northern Michigan's lakes, skied and biked Virginia's hills, and hiked California's San Jacinto Mountains.

Despite leading a healthy lifestyle, Adele noticed that her pregnancy weight gain had not vanished. She was looking for a diet that would work for her, and her research lead her to the ketogenic diet. That suited her personality and became a way of life for her. Adele's enthusiasm grew as the pounds fell away.
