South Wales: From The Bush Collection Volume II by Derek Warry

This second selection of postcards, taken from the thousands that Ernest T. Bush published during his lifetime, further illustrates his skillful art with a camera. He was an elusive character, but a renowned photographer. As a professional photographer he gives today's historian, and enthusaist, an unrivalled insight into the lives of previous generations. This present collection of over 200 photographs gives a further opportunity to see Bush's marvellous photography. The collection takes us from West Wales, through Cardiff, to The Valleys: Rhondda, Cynon, Taff, Rhymey and Ebbw in to Monmouthshire and beyond. These photographs, taken by Ernest Bush, provide a lasting portrayal, not only of the centre of Cardiff, where he was based, with its burgeoning suburbs, but also of the towns and villages throughout South Wales. While the medium of the postcard lends itself to showing streets and views, one can also get an insight into the lives of Bush's subjects and the towns that they inhabited. We can enjoy spotting the frequently featured gentlemen sporting a straw boater and a bow tie! Derek Warry once again draws us into his enthusiasm for the photographic collection of Ernest Bush and this edition includes additions and amendments to the complete catalogue offered in the earlier volume.
