South Wales in Focus by Barry Needle

This collection of 100 color photographs portrays the diverse landscape of South Wales with a fresh look at some of its finest views. There have been a number of illustrated books on the whole country and on the north, which contains Snowdonia, but a complete book like this on the south is unusual.Barry Needle begins with the Gower Peninsula near Swansea, then heads west past the Welsh-speaking strongholds of Llanelli and Carmarthen to the breath-taking coastline of South Pembrokshire. Then it's across the endless rolling hills of central Carmarthen to the towering ridge to the north. Nearby is Carreg Cennen Castle, sitting high on its rocky perch, with numerous waterfalls scattered about in the leafy crevices of the Vale of Neath. Next, it's on to the famous Rhondda Valley and a zig-zag drive over the Bwlch Mountain. The next stops include the Merthyr and Rhymney Valleys, in what was once the ironmaking area of the world. In the distance are the Brecon Beacons, massive glacial escarpments which are the highest points in southern Britain. The trip ends in the Wye Valley, with its profusion of blueballs in springtime, sleepy villages, and a graceful river. Come along with photographer Barry Needle on this extraordinary tour.
