Spaces for Learning by Lisa Baker
Translating contemporary pedagogical concepts into compelling and very diverse architectural solutions.
Today, schools are far more than just places of learning. They have evolved into living spaces for children and adolescents, offering extensive social functions and extracurricular activities. This shift toward diverse educational and societal roles has fundamentally transformed the architecture of school buildings and grounds.
Spaces for Learning presents international examples that show how functionality, sustainability, and compelling design can create innovative educational environments. Featuring projects from elementary to secondary schools, the book reveals how architecture and pedagogy can merge in contemporary and high-quality ways. The selection provides an inspiring look into the new worlds of open, diverse, and future-oriented learning.
Lisa Baker has almost 13 years of experience teaching music and theater. She has always enjoyed writing, beginning with her high school creative writing class and continuing until recently as a hobby. She received her B.S. from Grand Canyon University, summa cum laude. While working and raising children, I earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a focus on English. She and her 25-year-husband live in Southern California.
They have two adult children who have always liked Lisa's yearly Christmas letter, which is written in the form of a poem. Lisa enjoys playing at the local community theatre in her area when she is not traveling with her husband or instructing her students. Lisa's second novel is a sequel to her first. Have You Ever Seen the Ways an Animal Plays an Instrument? was her debut book.
