Spanish Lavender by Joan Fallon

'Spanish Lavender' is a love story set in the Spanish Civil War. In January 1937, Elizabeth, a young English girl decides to remain in Spain when the rest of her family return to the peace of England. Alone in the devastated city of MAlaga she makes friends with two young men, Juan, an idealistic Spaniard and Alex, a pragmatic Englishman. Together they make their escape from the war-torn city along the coast to AlmerIa. Amongst the death and carnage she falls in love with Juan, only to lose him shortly afterwards when he is badly wounded. Believing he is dead she returns to England.

Seventy years later Kate, Elizabeths granddaughter, is left a legacy following the death of her grandfather, a legacy that opens a Pandoras box of secrets and lies which Kate can only unravel by returning to Spain.

Fallon, Joan: - The Scottish novelist Joan Fallon, currently lives and works in the south of Spain. She writes both contemporary and historical fiction, but has also written a work of non-fiction which has proved the inspiration for at least two of her subsequent novels. Two aspects of Joan's life particularly influence her writing. The first is being a woman who grew up during the sixties and seventies-at a time when it was harder for a woman to gain recognition in a man's world-consequently almost all her books have a strong female protagonist. The second influence is the fact that she has lived in Spain for the last twenty years. Spanish history and culture fascinate her and have provided some of the most exotic settings in her historical novels. She is a member of the Society of Authors & the Alliance of Independent Authors. Teachers Certificate 1972 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Open - The Open University 1980, Post Grad Dip in Management Studies - Brunel Uni.
