In 1943, 16-year old Paul Stenberg was arrested in Paris and deported to Auschwitz. The only one of his family to survive, he describes his strategies for survival and the tactics he applied with cold competence, tracing his passage from artless adolescent to one determined to do anything to live.
Paul Steinberg was born in Berlin in 1926 and at the age of seven emigrated to France. Deported to Auschwitz in 1943, he was the only member of his family to survive. After liberation, Steinberg returned to Paris, where he worked in business until his death in 1999.
