Alan Marks studied art at Bath Academy in 1980 and has since illustrated over 20 children's picture books. Alan's first book, Storm, written by Kevin Crossley Holland, won the Carnegie Medal, and Ring a Ring o' Roses won the Bologna UNICEF Award. In 1996, Thomas and the Tinners was shortlisted for the Smarties Prize and The Thief's Daughter became National Curriculum recommended reading. He lives in Elmstone, Kent.

Eric Maddern studied sociology and psychology at Sheffield University, then spent 10 years travelling around the world. He now performs all over the country as a storyteller and folk singer, and he has built a roundhouse in the grounds of his home, where he holds storytelling events. He lives in Gwnyedd, Wales. Helen East was born in Sri Lanka and has since lived and travelled all over the world teaching, performing and writing. She became a professional storyteller in 1979. She has written a series for the BBC World Service entitled Everyday Science. She lives in London.
