Though the country's religion is Buddhist, it is not the less intricately weaved with alternative beliefs, such as spiritualism, animism and deism. Further impact by Indian and Chinese cultures throughout history has given Thai people the unique and colourful customs they so evidently cherish today.
Born in the United States, William Warren immigrated to Thailand in 1960 where, for over 30 years, he lectured in English at Chulalongkorn University. He is the author of over forty books, including: Thai Style, Jim Thompson: The Unsolved Mystery, The House on the Klong, Tropical Gardens and Heritage Homes of Thailand. Barry Broman first visited Thailand in 1962 as a photographer for the Associated Press. With a BA and MA in Southeast Asia Studies from the University of Washington, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as an infantry officer in Vietnam. He later moved to the State Department and spent a career in diplomacy, mostly in Southeast Asia. He retired in 1996 and now works as a writer and photographer and produces documentary films. His latest book of photography is Irrawaddy: Benevolent River of Burma.
